A charming B&B Boutique Inn nestled in the heart of the historic city of Antigua, Guatemala.

Housed in a beautifully restored colonial home, our inn is designed to be a haven for solo travellers, particularly women aged 55 and above, seeking a safe, comfortable, and enriching travel experience.

Welcome to my haven of tranquility!

My name is Lydia Kriniski, and I am the founder of Autumn in Antigua. At the age of 60, I embarked on my first solo travel adventure—a journey that was both liberating and, admittedly, a bit daunting. Over the course of three years, I traveled extensively through Central America, eventually finding my perfect home in Antigua. This city, with its rich history, vibrant culture, and warm community, captivated me, and I knew I wanted to share its magic with other women like myself.

At Autumn in Antigua, our mission is to create a welcoming and supportive environment for women who may feel hesitant about traveling alone. We understand the unique challenges and joys of solo travel, especially for those stepping out on their own later in life. Our goal is to foster a sense of community among our guests, providing not just a place to stay, but a place to belong.

Our Location

“Las Gravileas” is a phrase that refers to a native tree species Gravilea. These trees are know for their beautiful yellow flowers, which bloom in abundance at certain times of the year.

Las Gravileas is a picturesque neighborhood in Antigua known for its stunning colonial homes, cobblestone streets, lush gardens, and beautiful fountains. This area offers a unique blend of contemporary and historical living, and is perfect for an early morning walk or an evening stroll. You'll be treated to breathtaking views of the volcanos, colorful sunrises, and stunning sunsets. Additionally, Las Gravileas is a gated community with 24-hour security ,offering peace of mind to its residents.

Central Park is a 15-20 minutes walk. (1.5 km). Taxi’s, Uber s or Tuk Tuk ‘s are available and range from 30GTQ ($3.85) to 40 GTQ ($5.10)

Antigua, Guatemala

Nestled in the middle of a bright and colourful valley surrounded by 3 majestic volcanoes you will find the legendary centuries-old and ancient mythical City of Antigua. Antigua is in the beautiful country of Guatemala which is known as the country of eternal spring. Always elegant and majestic in its colonial architecture that, despite natural disasters, is still here as an open-air museum; Being one of the most beautiful cities in the world and declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO for its many attractive cultures, history and traditions. Holy Week is the most grandiose and solemn on the entire planet in its brilliant execution.

This activity also declared a world heritage site by UNESCO. Antigua offers a vibrant social scene with many restaurants, pubs, and nightclubs to visit. The central park hosts a variety of cultural events, creating a lively atmosphere filled with color and culture. The locals are friendly and courteous, adding to the welcoming ambiance.

Welcome to my haven of tranquility!

Having spent the majority of her life in small, rural northern communities, Lydia Kriniski, like many women her age, had encountered the trials of death, divorce, and empty nesting. Finding herself alone and isolated, she made a bold decision—to run away from her life.

Initially hesitant to embark on solo travel, her yearning for more outweighed her fears. Her journey commenced with a three-month adventure in Costa Rica.

Her perspective of the world swiftly expanded, as she eagerly anticipated the vast array of experiences awaiting her. She knew this was just the beginning of a much-needed new chapter in her life. Costa Rica ignited her curiosity, leading her to two Sivananada Ashrams—one in the Bahamas and another in Canada—where she became a certified yoga teacher. A six-month stay in Costa Rica, including her first visit to Guatemala, further fueled her wanderlust.


Guatemala proved to be a serendipitous experience. It was never on her radar, but life had other plans. She found herself in awe of the country's beauty. However, her adventures didn't end there; she spent six weeks in Spain, fulfilling a long-held dream of walking the Camino de Santiago. Though she returned to Canada, her heart remained tethered to Guatemala.

Throughout her travels, she encountered many women who, like her, found themselves alone in their autumn years, yearning to travel but fearful of doing so alone. These encounters planted the seed for "Autumn in Antigua."

Adventure, safety, beauty, relaxation, and cultural exploration—all are vital considerations when planning a trip. Whether seeking an adrenaline rush, a tranquil escape, or an opportunity to immerse oneself in new cultures, Autumn in Antigua offers it all, beckoning travelers to embark on their own transformative journeys.
